Divine magic, or Theurgy, comes not from studying the Arcane Realms, but as a gift from the Deities themselves. Not all who are chosen by the Deities are priests, and not all priests have divine magic, but there is significant overlap between those who have professionally devoted themselves to a deity and those who receive power from one. Theurges blessed with the powers of the Deities usually lack the flexibility of Arcane spellcasters, but they can call upon extreme divine power in their area of influence
The Major Deities invest their power more commonly than the Minor Deities. Priests of Shemonel usually have the power of one aspect of the Eight-Faced Deity, and they are rarely seen outside the Thearchy. Some ambitious (or foolish) people have bargained with other inhabitants of the Metarealms for an investiture of power; they are usually known as warlocks, witches, or druids (depending on the type of entity) rather than clerics or prophets. Divine magicians may be known by many other names depending on the Deity they serve or the type of magic they specialize in.
